In a heartwarming display of community spirit and cross-cultural connection, the Trinity Rooms recently hosted a remarkable fundraising event that brought together local residents to support mothers facing hardship in Afghanistan.

The initiative began when Reena approached the Trinity Rooms in December 2024 with a creative fundraising proposal. Her vision was to prepare traditional Afghan dishes for the community on a donation basis, with all proceeds going to support Afghan mothers experiencing extreme financial hardship under the Taliban regime.

This proposal aligned perfectly with the Trinity Rooms' commitment to supporting those facing oppression worldwide. Our Community Development team worked closely with Reena to bring her vision to life, coordinating with the monthly Stroud Repair and Eco Cafe, arranging kitchen training, and mobilising a dedicated team of volunteers.

The event, held in late January 2025 as part of the Stroud Repair and Eco Cafe's regular monthly gathering, exceeded all expectations. More than 70 guests attended the community lunch, making it our largest turnout yet. Reena prepared a delicious two-course Afghan feast that not only satisfied appetites but also created meaningful connections across cultures. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, the event raised over £700 for Afghan mothers in need.

Following this success, plans are already underway for future events that will expand on this cultural exchange. The next gathering will incorporate Afghan music, dance, and talks, creating an even richer experience for all participants. Additionally, the Trinity Rooms is exploring ways to continue supporting Reena in her personal journey, including her aspirations to become a qualified midwife.

Reflecting on the event, Reena shared: "I had such a fantastic time working in the Trinity Room, cooking and sharing special moments with so many wonderful people from our community. It was truly heartwarming to see everyone come together to enjoy Afghani meals while supporting such an important cause. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed through fundraising and donations – your kindness and generosity truly make a difference! I can't wait for another opportunity to cook and connect with our amazing community. I feel so proud to be part of this incredible group. Thank you all for your support and for making the Trinity Room such a welcoming place!"

This event exemplifies the power of community action and demonstrates how local initiatives can make a meaningful impact on global issues. Stay tuned for announcements about future events as we continue to build bridges and support those in need, both locally and internationally.
